A Rhode Island man was charged with assaulting a police offering during an incident Saturday night at the Jericho Terrace Catering Hall, police said.

John Demonte Alarcon, 29,  of Pawtucket was acting in an aggressive manner toward a 50-year-old victim whom he punched in the face at 249 Jericho Turnpike, the authorities said.

When he detailed Alarcon, a police officer sustained injuries as Alarcon became violent and combative while resisting arrest, police said. The injured officer was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Alarcon has been charged with second and third-degree assault, second-degree harassment, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, police said.
