Williston Park Superintendent of Public Works Steven Shelley provided another update about the department’s progress on the village’s roads project at Monday night’s Board of Trustees meeting.

According to Shelley, the contractors have completed the dead end of Yale Street along with the North section of Broad Street between the village pool and the Yale Street intersection. They are currently working on Broad Street between Yale and Syracuse streets as well as Syracuse Street and Princeton Street.

The contractors will soon begin work on Broad Street between the Princeton and Lehigh streets.

Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar also addressed residents’ complaints about contractors not fixing their curbs and driveway aprons.

“We’re only replacing those curbs that are deteriorated to the point that they’re not functional and driveway aprons that may impact the flow of water,” said Ehrbar. “If we had decided to do all aprons and curbs, we would’ve had to eliminate a number of streets out of the project to accomplish that goal. We try to do as many roads as we can for safety reasons”

Ehrbar also introduced the new village attorney, Benjamin J. Truncale Jr., at Monday’s meeting. This comes after James Bradley’s retirement, the previous village attorney.

“We reached out to a few law firms and we settled on Ben Truncale,” said Ehrbar. “He’s been involved in Mineola and a number of municipalities, so we welcome him to the board.”

Williston Park Trustee William Carr also told attendees to check on their neighbors, especially the elderly, in wake of the heat wave this week.

The next board meeting will be held on Monday, Aug. 22.
