A Manhattan man was arrested early Sunday morning for driving while intoxicated with two children in the backseat of his car, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
Detectives said that Bryan Ramirez, 27, of 125 Seaman Ave. in the Inwood neighborhood of Manhattan was operating a 2002 gray Acura traveling westbound on the Long Island Expressway near exit 37 around 4 a.m. in Roslyn.
“Defendant Ramirez was observed by officers making multiple lane changes unsafely,” police said in a statement. “Officers activated their emergency lights and conducted a vehicle and traffic law stop. A subsequent investigation was conducted and the defendant Ramirez was placed under arrest without incident.”
The vehicle’s passengers included two children, ages 2 and 6 years old. Police said the children were released into the custody of their mother.
Ramirez has been charged with two counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child under 16 under Leandra’s Law, two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, driving while intoxicated and multiple traffic infractions. He was arraigned later on Sunday at the Nassau County Courthouse in Mineola, and will be represented by the Legal Aid Society of Nassau County. Ramirez is scheduled to return to First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 4.
