Three people were shot at the Mansion at Glen Cove at 200 Dosoris Lane late Sunday afternoon during a private event.
The incident happened at around 5 p.m. at the “Big Fendi Celebrity Pool Party,” according to Glen Cove Police Department spokesman Det. Lt. John Nagle,
He said on Sunday that the incident sparked from a fight. Shots were fired as one of the security guards on duty sought to escort a partygoer outside.
“It was a very chaotic situation,” said Nagle. “Once we arrived here, we had between 150 and 200 partygoers, so it was a very chaotic, chaotic scene.”
Upon police arrival, they located the three victims — a security guard and two partygoers — and transported them to a local hospital. He said their injuries are not life-threatening.
The lone shooter escaped before responders could arrive. Nagle said he remains on the loose.
The mansion’s director, Helen Whitehead, spoke at a news conference on Tuesday to discuss the incident.
“We will go to every length to make sure that the residents of Glen Cove know an incident like this will never happen again,” she said.
Whitehead said the alleged shooter attempted to get into the party but was turned away at the door. It’s unclear how he eventually got in. She said that the venue went above and beyond to ensure the party’s safety.
“We had a team of 20 security guards staffed for the event,” she said. “In the hours leading up to the event, we were in communication with the police.”
Officials from the mansion said they are cooperating with the authorities to resolve the issue.
Police said the pool party did not have the required authorization from City Hall. The mansion’s lawyers declined to comment on the subject because of the ongoing investigation.
According to Glen Cove Mayor Pamela Panzenbeck, none of the victims were from the city. She said this would be the city’s last event of this nature.
The Mansion at Glen Cove is a luxury hotel and a popular venue. Once known as “The Manor,” the hotel has served as the backdrop for several Hollywood movies.
