The campaign for George Santos, an economist seeking the Republican nomination in the 3rd Congressional District, said it planned to report that it raised “roughly” $800,000 in the first quarter of 2022.
“While New York Democrats tear each other apart, our momentum has never been stronger,” Santos said in a statement. “Our campaign has the resources to take on Nancy Pelosi’s money machine and win for everyday New Yorkers. Our state and country are suffering because of Joe Biden’s failed policies, which have focused on serving special interests, not hardworking New Yorkers. I’ll fight inflation and I will never stop fighting to make our communities safer, and law enforcement stronger.”
Santos raised $210,484 in the fourth quarter of 2021, bringing his campaign total at the time to $727,062, according to Federal Election Commission reports.
Santos is running for the seat currently held by Congressman Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), who is leaving his post to run for governor. The Queens native is seeking to represent the district previously held by Republican Peter King for two decades from 1993 to 2013.
The Santos campaign joined Democratic candidates Joshua Lafazan and Robert Zimmerman in releasing filing projections ahead of the April 15 deadline.
Santos, who ran against Suozzi in 2020, was recently named an “On the Radar” candidate in the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program, his campaign said.
