I’m sorry to hear our school board is proposing a tax increase of 2.9 percent when our state aid has been increased by over $1 million and our employee pension costs are actually reduced by quite a bit.
I want to keep our school system healthy, while at the same time keeping Port taxpayers healthy. I understand we are adding another assistant superintendent to our current staff at a cost of $200,000.
I will be voting NO on the budget and was happy to learn that candidate Robert Young believed we should keep the increase to 2 percent or less. He has my vote!
