A naked New Hyde Park man Sunday punched a woman in the shoulder and ran into oncoming traffic on Jericho Turnpike before being detained, according to Nassau County Police.

Varinder Singh, 29, approached a 23-year-old woman in the vicinity of 633 Jericho Turnpike at about 10:35 p.m. Sunday while naked before allegedly striking her with a closed fist and injuring her right upper arm, police said. 

Officers attempted to make contact with Singh, who was running eastbound on Jericho, before he ran into oncoming traffic, police said. 

When caught by police, a struggle ensued between Singh and two police officers, who were both injured and one of them fell to the ground with Singh, who police said was “violent and combative while resisting arrest.”

Singh and the two officers were taken to a local hospital to be treated for injuries while the unidentified woman who was punched refused medical assistance, police said. 

Singh was charged with two counts of assault in the second degree, assault in the third degree, resisting arrest and public exposure.
