Upcoming events at the Hillside Public Library

The Hillside Public Library is sponsoring a Basic First Aid Supplies Drive to support Ukraine. Needed items include Band Aids, Sterile Eye Dressings; Gauze Dressings; Safety Pins; Tweezers and Scissors; Skin Rash Creams; Pain Relievers and Digital Thermometers. There is a bin at the library for your donations, and we thank you for your generosity.

Hillside Public Library is partnering with Long Island Coalition for the Homeless in a Lunch Box Drive. Needed items include the following: Lunch Boxes, Juice Boxes, and non-perishable food items, such as granola bars. Donation boxes are at the library.

PROGRAMS and EVENTS
Life Mapping with Lou Ann – All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Fridays, September 23 and 30 at 10:30 a.m. Life Mapping is a positive exercise that can help a person track down the things and ideas that they value in life. It can help them to spot the positive thoughts that drive their life. A person can add their achievements, beliefs, challenges. Life Maps can be of different types. This is an example of the workshop that we offer. It’s a visual timeline; a person can create a whole map describing memorable moments of their life.

In-Person Property Tax Exemption Lecture – All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Wednesday, September 28 at 1:30 p.m. During this program, Town of North Hempstead Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman and his staff will explain to Nassau County homeowners how to apply for the many property tax exemptions available to County residents. Town Receiver staff will also be present to distribute applications and answer resident’s questions regarding exemption qualification requirements.

In-Person Long Island, the Gold Coast and Hollywood – All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Wednesday, September 28 at 6:30 p.m. Join film historian Keith Crocker for a wonderful cinematic seminar and look back at the Golden Age of Hollywood on Long Island’s Gold Coast! The exclusivity, beauty and wonder of Long Island will forever be captured in the heyday of tinsel town and the representations vary in interesting ways. Participate in this historical journey of cinema and seascape.

The Science of Seed Saving – Virtual Thursday, September 29 at 6:30 p.m. In agriculture and gardening, seed saving is the practice of saving seeds or other reproductive material from vegetables, grain, herbs, and flowers for use from year to year for annuals and nuts, tree fruits, and berries for perennials and trees. Bring your questions about native plants, pollinators, edible plants, and more! Presented by: Blue Stem Native

CHILDREN and YOUNG ADULT EVENTS
YA Art Club – All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Friday, September 23 at 5 p.m. Grades 5 – 12. Help decorate our YA Room by creating a unique art project with Ms. Ambadjes. All projects will be displayed and returned the following class/month.

Kitchen Chemistry with Johnda Ferrari – All Purpose Room, 2nd Floor Thursday, September 29 at 4:30 p.m. Ages: 7 years- 11 years. Explore & discover amazing chemical reactions with Johnda!
