The Herricks Community Fund, a not-for-profit organization committed to enriching the Herricks community and its School District, held its annual fundraiser on March 14.
Held at the Inn at New Hyde Park, this year’s event was the Herricks Community Fund’s 26th Annual Dinner Dance. The fund has donated over $1,000,000 since its inception in 1986 to worthwhile causes in the Herricks District and globally.
This year’s event attracted over 200 people, including local elected officials Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, Legislator Scott Strauss, Legislator Samantha Goetz, Comptroller Elaine Phillips, Town Clerk Ragini Srivastava, a representative of Assemblywoman Gina Sillitti, and Councilwoman Christine Liu. Also in attendance were school district administrators, teachers, staff, community leaders, and individuals active in local PTAs. A surprise guest was former New York State Gov. David Paterson.
A representative of Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman delivered a proclamation celebrating the Fund’s achievements. Paul Ehrbar, co-president of the fund and mayor of Williston Park, said, “The Trustees of the Fund thank all who attended.
This event allowed the Herricks community a chance to come out and celebrate with the Herricks Community Fund.”
The profits from this event are used to fund the Herricks Teacher Mini-Grants. These grants are used to further the education of Herricks students through extraordinarily creative ideas from their teachers.
Over 50 raffle prizewinners, a 50/50 drawing and grand prizes including Yankees/Mets Subway Series tickets, a 50” television and the opportunity for one lucky student to become “School Superintendent for a Day” highlighted the evening along with a live DJ, an open bar, and an incredible dinner.
The Herricks Community Fund numbers among its beneficiaries the Our Space Adult Day Programs, Herricks Youth Council, Herricks Teacher Mini-Grants, Scouts, Herricks School District, Herricks Scholarship Fund, Herricks Community Fund Scholarships and many more.
The Fund wishes to thank all of the sponsors and those who donated to this event and they look forward to seeing all of you at their next Community Center Carnival May 30th through June 2nd. This annual community center tradition attracts many of our local families and friends to the four-day event.
