Gately sworn in as new superintendent of EWSD

The East Williston School District swore in new Superintendent Danielle Gately alongside Trustees David Keefe and Tasneem Meghji Tuesday night. 

Board President Mark Kamberg and Vice President Robert Fallarino were also appointed to their roles after being sworn in.

Before her current post, Gately served the East Williston district as chief information officer, director of secondary curriculum and social studies, director of district curriculum information and middle school student life. 

The Long Island native has a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Molloy College, a master’s degree from St. John’s University and a Doctor of Education degree from Concordia Lutheran University. 

Gately takes over from Elaine Kanas, who retired this year after a decade as secretary. Before East Williston, Kansas previously worked at Valley Stream District 30 in the same position and served as an assistant superintendent in upstate New York. 

Keefe was elected to his fourth term on the board in 2019 in an uncontested race. Keefe has served on the board since 2010 and never run in a contested race until this year.

He has served on multiple boards for decades, including state and local committees. Keefe taught in Hempstead for about 40 years and was the union president in Hempstead for 30 years.

Before being elected to the board in 2020, Meghji served on the Educational Advisory Committee for the East Williston schools, which advises the board and the district on educational initiatives. Meghji was elected to fill the seat on the board left vacant by Alan Littman.

Kamberg is currently serving his fifth term, having served on the board since 2008. He has lived in Albertson for 19 years and is the president of S. Kamberg & Company, a food ingredients company based in Great Neck that his father founded.

The next meeting for the East Williston Board of Education will be Wednesday, Aug. 10.
