The East Williston Board of Trustees Monday night authorized the village court to apply for a Justice Court Assistance Program grant next year to obtain up to $30,000 for court improvements and renovations.
Mayor Bonnie Parente said JCAP grants in the past provided funding to rebuild the court dais and village seal on the dais, among other items, at no cost to taxpayers.
The grant, which is being applied for in next year’s cycle, would go toward a new podium and other court-related supplies that have not been chosen yet, if approved.
The board also approved $1,000 stipends for firefighters who participate in EMS training and obtain either their certification or recertification.
Trustee Anthony Gallo during his report said work to replace the Fire Department’s roof was pushed back to Thursday of this week due to inclement weather Monday.
In unrelated village news, Parente thanked the residents who attended the village’s Sept. 11 memorial service, which was moved from the village green to inside village hall.
East Williston’s next board of trustees meeting will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17. at 7:30 p.m.
