Woman struck by car in Port Washington

A car driving on Beacon Hill Road struck a 70-year-old woman last Tuesday, sending her to the hospital, police said.

The woman was crossing an unlit area of the road at 6:22 p.m., police said, when she was struck by the car.

Police said she was taken to the hospital, but they had no  updates on the woman’s condition.

Robert Phillips, who works in Port Washington, said he drove by minutes after the accident and saw the woman lying in the middle of the street covered by a rain jacket.

Phillips said  visibility was low because of rain.

“The traffic was very heavy that night everywhere,” said Phillips, who travels on Beacon Hill Road every day. “Beacon Hill Road in general is poorly lit and that night was very rainy.”
