As a long time Nassau County educator, I’ve seen a lack of interest at best, and some negligence to be sure, regarding fiscal management in several districts.
The past elected officials have done nothing to address these issues and have in fact exacerbated the situation by ignoring it.
We now have a candidate with a real plan.
Adam Haber helped reverse a horrific situation in the Roslyn School District as school board trustee.
Working alongside his board colleagues, he initiated and implemented many innovations to cut costs without loss of personnel and most importantly, to strengthen academic resources for students.
His creative solutions, to name a few, included saving money by refinancing debt, establishing a foundation to generate a revenue stream, and utilizing cooperative busing for private school routes.
Since Adam’s arrival to the Board, these innovations, brand new to school operations, saved the Roslyn School District several million dollars.
Other districts are starting to implement some of these ideas, but we all know how slowly the wheels of progress turn.
School buildings are large, costly facilities.
As a businessman, Adam Haber draws from his first-hand experience with commercial real estate and restaurants, ensuring these facilities are run smoothly and economically.
His plan for energy performance for our schools and carbon monoxide reduction for our buses will create a profound effect on our budgets and environment, helping students, residents and taxpayers alike.
