A 60-year-old woman had her car with a dog inside stolen from her while she was pumping gas in Mineola Monday afternoon, police said.

Authorities are looking for a male suspect, described as being a thin build, wearing gray sweatpants, a black hooded sweatshirt, black gloves and a black ski mask who entered the victim’s 2020 white Range Rover at a BP gas station on 91 West Jericho Turnpike and fled westbound onto Jericho.

Inside the car was the victim’s handbag that contained credit cards and a one-year-old white Cavachon Bichon dog, police said.

While fleeing, the suspect attempted to throw the dog out of the vehicle but its collar got caught, leading it to be dragged on the roadway before freeing itself, police said.

The dog was aided by a passerby who called 911 and was eventually taken to a veterinary hospital where it was treated for serious injuries.

The Range Rover was found later parked in front of 500 North Walnut Street in East Orange, N.J.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
