Mineola’s Hampton Street and Meadow Drive schools looked more like senior citizen centers as learners celebrated their 100th day of school on Feb. 9 by dressing (and acting) as if they were 100 years old.
Some of the pre-K through second graders appeared to have aged over nine decades in a day as they arrived at class with grayed hair, rollers and facial hair and dressed in classic fashion with hats, horn-rimmed glasses, pearls, suspenders and bowties.
Others chose to display their spirit and creativity by creating handmade 100-themed T-shirts and signs marking the occasion.
Mineola’s 100th Day of School celebration wasn’t all about dressing up. The learners were excited to prove that they are “100 days smarter” by participating in various “100-themed” lessons and activities throughout the day, including math and counting, history and art.
