Leaping into the New Year with some of our favorite programs – and some new ones, too! A big thanks to all our patrons, presenters, staff, and supporters for making 2023 a 100th anniversary year to remember.
Toddlers and the “littles” can enjoy A Time for Kids’ Baby Start and Family Pre-School Hour, Play Hooray. Toddler Time and Little Adventurers with Ms. Rita. P[art]y Art is in the house with a drop-off duo for PreK – Grade 2 and Grades 3 – 5, and the Pom Queen makes snow owls with 3rd – 5th graders.
There’s a special author visit for children in grades 3 – 5 from Veronica Agarwal and Lee Durfey-Lavoie presenting their graphic novel “Just Roll with It.” The authors will also host a three-part Making Comics workshop.
Families can enjoy an entertaining time with Diana Frohman and her Dancing Dogs, featuring tricks and freestyle dancing.
The Teens can opt for a Funky Printmaking Workshop or a winterscape craft with P[art]ty Art, learn babysitting skills at the workshop presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, or stay tuned in to the Library’s Instagram page for news of pop up events.
Ann Napolitano’s “Hello Beautiful” is the topic of discussion at the Evening Edition Book Club meeting on January 4th and, speaking of beautiful, the Monday Matinee feature is “Barbie.” The Friends of the Floral Park Library kick off the new year with a discussion of 2007’s “Uncommon Reader” by author Alan Bennett. Patrick O’Donnell leads the program.
We continue with Wednesday’s weekly hybrid Chair Yoga with Micheline. The next Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving is Thursday, Jan. 11th. Registration is open.
In the closing months of 2023, the Floral Park Library Urban Explorers took a guided audio tour of St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and walked the High Line. The group is already working on their 2024 plans.
Our Made with Love Knitting and Crocheting group meets Mondays at 6:30 pm and Wednesdays at 11:00 am (holiday closures excepted).
The Library Board meets Wednesday, January 17th at 7:30pm. The public is welcome.
The Library is closed Monday January 1st for New Year’s Day, and Monday, January 15th for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
One-to-one tech help for tablets, smartphones, laptops and Kindles is available for our Floral Park patrons by appointment only (floralparktechhelp@gmail.com).
