Cabbie robbed after taking fare in Mineola

A taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint in Uniondale on Sunday after picking up a woman in Mineola, police said.

When the 64-year-old All Island Taxi driver dropped off the woman at a house on Maple Avenue in Uniondale, she paid and walked off in an unknown direction, Nassau County police said.

A man then approached the cab, displayed a black handgun and demanded money, police said. He ran away in an unknown direction with the cash.

No one was hurt in the robbery, police said.

The driver reported the crime to police after returning to the All Island Taxi station near Mineola’s Long Island Rail Road station, police said.

Police described the suspected robber as a black man standing about 5-foot-9, wearing gloves and a dark-colored ski mask.
