The Floral Park Chamber of Commerce’s street fair, sponsored by the New York Racing Association, is returning Sunday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The event will be held one day after the 154th running of the Belmont Stakes Saturday at Belmont Park, which is the third and oldest leg of the Triple Crown in horse racing.
Festivities will take place on Tulip Avenue from Verbena to Plainfield Avenue and will feature crafts and merchandise, inflatable rides and slides, a rock-climbing wall, mechanical bull, food trucks and more.
On the east end of the fair at Plainfield Avenue is where the Giant Kids Funzone will be located, according to chamber officials. On the Verbana Avenue side, a mobile stage will feature live bands In the Mix and The Hambones.
Stephen Wickes, the immediate past president of the chamber who has organized the street fair for the past decade, said it is another chance for Floral Park to show what it’s made of after two years of being on the sidelines since COVID-19.
“It’s important for the local businesses because we draw a really big crowd,” Wickes said. “We want to attract people to the heart of our village and experience what Floral Park has to offer, which is shopping, dining and living in a family-friendly community.”
Wickes said years ago the chamber made a decision to change the street fair from Friday nights to Sunday afternoons and has benefitted from the family atmosphere. He said that three performances will be taking place throughout the fair by local businesses Dancin’ Queens Dance Studio, Kombative Edge Martial Arts and the Floral Park Memorial High School Kickline.
The Islip Horseman’s Association will also hold a choreographed dressage performance to music, which entails a horse and rider going through the paces to music.
Food options for fairgoers include Food Trucks from Mama’s Cuban Kitchen, The Filthy Pig, Bacon You Crazy, Frankie’s Famous Zeppoles, Bayside Lemonade, Poparazzi Kettle Corn, Pete’s Zeppoles, Kona Ice of Long Island and Knot of This World Pretzels, Wickes said.
Also in attendance will be Pickle Me Pete and for dessert, Three Brothers Ice Cream.
From 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., In the Mix will be on the stage. The Floral Park Memorial Kickline will go on starting at 2:40 p.m. before Kombative Edge and Dancin’ Queens take the stage at 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m., respectively. From 4:30 to the fair’s end at 6 p.m., The Hambones will provide live music.
I went here today with my family at 4:30pm and there was absolutely nothing there – no fair set up. Am I missing something??
