Congratulations to Manhasset Secondary School freshman Maxwell Jervis and senior Michelle Park, both members of Manhasset Secondary School’s Model United Nations Club. They both won awards at the Columbia University Education Simulation Model United Nations Conference.

Jervis and Park were among 17 Model UN Club members from Manhasset, ranging from grades 9-12, to compete against 250 students, assembled into eight committees from across Long Island and the Greater New York area. The committees worked collaboratively to address solutions to international problems.
Park earned Honorable Mention for her role as a delegate on the Historical Crisis Committee. She played the role of Maria Melendez, who served in the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico from 2017-2019. Jervis earned the Most Improved Award, also for his work on the Historical Crisis Committee, representing Catherine de’ Medici on the Council of Henry II of France.
The conference allowed participants to further develop diplomacy, negotiation and decision-making skills while sharing their perspectives and gaining insight from their peers attending other area schools.
