On Nov. 6, 11 members of Floral Park Memorial High School’s PEARLS joined with their Elmont counterparts and participated in Black Solidarity Day, hosted by Adelphi University.

The students reported that their eyes were opened to what the college process entails, as well as the importance of building relationships through internships. PEARLS leaders were exposed to information about black history that they felt was more extensive than what is covered in school.

In an effort to embrace African culture, they participated in dance routines and learned some African customs. Students enjoyed the conference and expressed interest in asking these presenters to be facilitators at one of their upcoming meetings.
