Two thespians from South High School took the stage alongside Broadway stars at the fourth annual Broadway Back to School benefit at Feinstein’s/54 Below in New York City on Sept. 23.
South High students Fiona Lyngstad-Hughes and Maggie Roach were invited to perform at this event based on their participation in their school’s theatre program, known as Theatre South, and their passion for musical theater.
The Broadway Back to School benefit is sponsored by the Educational Theatre Foundation and supports theatre education programs for schools in need. The evening features Broadway actors performing musical selections with current students representing a dozen high schools in the metropolitan area.
This year’s event was co-chaired by Hunter Bell, who stared in Broadway’s [title of show] and Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” and Hans Weichhart, the chief relationship officer for the Educational Theatre Association, and directed by Seth Rettberg.
