South High School junior Sara Jhong is the third-place winner in the 2018 Celebration of Suburban Diversity Essay Contest, sponsored by Hofstra University and Bethpage Federal Credit Union.
The third-place prize for this essay contest includes a $1,000 scholarship award. Sara will be recognized at the Celebration of Suburban Diversity Banquet at the Crest Hollow Country Club in November, sponsored by the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University.
The Celebration of Suburban Diversity Essay Contest was open to high school students in grades 9–12 in Nassau and Suffolk counties. Participants were asked to identify, analyze, and describe the future impact of an issue related to the diverse Long Island suburbs.
The National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University is a non-partisan research institution dedicated to promoting an objective, academically rigorous study of suburbia. Its mission is to advance the goals of suburban sustainability, social equity, and economic development through research, education, and public outreach.
