Sewanhaka’s New Hyde Park Memorial High School student named Grand Champion in poetry contest

New Hyde Park Memorial High School senior Hannah Ninan’s poem, “Traveling Pots,” has been selected as Grand Champion in Category E – Grades 11 and 12 in Walt Whitman Birthplace Association’s 37th annual Student Poetry Contest.

As a Grand Champion, Ninan has been invited to read her poem aloud at the Student Poetry Contest Awards Celebration on May 21. Her poem is also being printed in the event program and will be featured on the WWBA’s website. Additionally, the poems of all individual winners will be published in a chapbook that will be available for sale on the day of the event.
