Roslyn Middle School hosted their 8th grade graduation ceremony at Hofstra University on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at 11AM. Two-hundred and fifty-two students entered the arena to “Pomp and Circumstance,” performed by the Roslyn Middle School Band, under the direction of Katherine DeMaria.
After a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance, Roslyn Middle School Assistant Principal Christopher Roth presented the PFA Character of Distinction Awards to Jordan Buslik, Ursula Koestner, Blake Markland, and Emma Wei. Next, the Roslyn Middle School Chorale, led by Director Brian Villegas, sang “The Star Spangled Banner” and “I Lived.”
Principal Craig Johanson gave remarks and congratulated the class on their achievement. He also paid tribute to Director of Pupil Personnel Services Barbara Schwartz and wished her well in retirement.
Roslyn Board of Education President Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy bestowed bits of wisdom and encouraged the incoming freshmen class to explore their passions and take full advantage of all the subjects and clubs that Roslyn High School is ready to offer them.
PFA Co-Presidents Liz Neale and Catherine Ptarcinski gave remarks and congratulated the students on their milestone achievement. Assistant Principal Melissa Hornik presented the Vanessa Gray Award to Brody Konigsberg. School Counselor Corrine Decker presented the William Alexander Award to Navya Gupta.
Finally, the 8th graders took the stage as their names were individually called. Each was given a certificate by President Ben-Levy. Joining her on stage were Board of Education Trustees Allison Gilbert and David Dubner, Superintendent Allison Brown, and Principal Johanson. Finally, Roslyn High School Principal Dr. Scott Andrews wrapped up the ceremony by welcoming the incoming freshmen Class of 2028.
