Harbor Hill Elementary School and East Hills Elementary School hosted their fifth-grade moving-up ceremonies on Friday, June 14, 2024. Both ceremonies, packed with family members, were held in the Roslyn High School auditorium.
Smiling broadly and dressed in black and white, the fifth-graders entered the auditorium to Pomp and Circumstance. Roslyn Board of Education President Meryl Waxman Ben-Levy gave remarks at both ceremonies, which were attended by Superintendent Allison Brown, Assistant Superintendent Karina Baez, and incoming Director of Pupil Personnel Services Cindy Samide. Roslyn Middle School Principal Craig Johanson gave remarks, congratulating the fifth graders and telling them how much he was looking forward to meeting them in the fall.
Principal Michelle Hazen and Assistant Principal Justin Gabrus presided over the Harbor Hill ceremony, which began at 9AM. Each student took a trip down memory lane, reminiscing about their experiences in grade school. Remarks by PFA Co-Presidents Bindya Melwani and Lauren Director were followed by the presentation of promotion certificates and a student performance.
Principal Sherry Ma and Assistant Principal Jennifer Sheehan presided over the East Hills ceremony, which began at noon. Remarks by PFA Co-Presidents Kathy Kim and Samantha Fensterman were followed by a rendition of “Have it All” and “The East Hills Song,” sung by the fifth-grade class. There was also a presentation of the 2024 fifth-grade project and schoolwide mosaic. The fifth-grade teachers read aloud the names of the students during the presentation of promotional certificates, followed by Assistant Principal Jennifer Sheehan, who gave closing remarks.
