Hearty congratulations to Nina Livingston and the North Shore Middle School students including Maria Michael, Genevieve Hudin, and Olivia Kenny for winning the PitchIt! News Literacy Essay Contest.
The students conducted research addressing three prompts:
- Explain how the First Amendment protects freedom of the press.
- How can citizens fact-check well-known figures (journalists, celebrities, influencers, athletes, etc.)?
- Citizens have responsibilities. Why would consuming or sharing reliable information be a responsibility?
They will now participate in a Zoom meeting with professional Journalists Colleen Wright of the Miami Herald and Jessica Bakeman of WLRN, South Florida’s NPR member station.
