Oorja Singh, a sixth-grade student at Roslyn Middle School, received an Honorable Mention for her poem in the Walt Whitman poetry contest. Oorja’s poem “Towards the Blazing Sun” captured the attention of the judges for its lyrical beauty and emotional resonance.
“It is wonderful to see young poets lean into their creative impulses and even more exciting when they are recognized for their talents and effort,” said English Chair Jennifer Sapir. “Congratulations to Oorja! We are so proud of her!”
