Roslyn High School has added two new class offerings to the curriculum this year: Media Broadcasting Production and Podcasting.

The classes are being held in a newly renovated state-of-the-art studio space that was completed over the summer—providing a real-world learning environment for students to engage in the art of storytelling and broadcasting on a whole new level.

The Power of the Podcast: The Art of Modern Storytelling, taught by Matthew Vogt, will instruct students how to analyze modern stories and use the podcast forum to share their own storytelling.

“There are so many different ways to tell a story and audio is one of those forms,” Vogt said. “Everything is going to be hands-on and collaborative, while ensuring that our narratives sound great and engaging. I’m so looking forward to teaching this content in this amazing setting with so many dedicated students.”

Media Broadcast Production is being offered to juniors and seniors interested in exploring the world of television/video production and broadcast journalism.

Students will research topics, write news scripts and produce a weekly news show that will be broadcast to the high school.

Teachers Jennifer Di Pietro and Magdaleeni Milonakis participated in extensive training over the summer in preparation for the launch of Roslyn Television (RTV).

“It is wonderful to see how excited the students are to be a part of the first year of RTV,” Di Pietro said. “This platform will help us spread school spirit and shine a light on various activities, events, and clubs within the school.”

“We’re so excited for the fun year ahead of us!” Milonakis said. “The space is amazing and we know that the RTV staff will make Roslyn High School proud with their professionalism and creativity.”

“Students will have the ability to hone their communication skills, express creativity, embrace critical thinking, and ultimately develop foundational skills that can be applied to countless career paths,” Roslyn High School Assistant Principal Carol Murphy said.
