New Hyde Park Memorial High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District hosted Pink October to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer.

Organized by breast cancer survivor and English teacher Katie Kaspar and teacher of the deaf and Key Club advisor Lisa Bocchino, Pink October was a month-long series of events. It kicked off with the school community walking a mile for The Pink Mile. Additionally, pink lemonade was sold throughout the month at The Dads’ Club Shack, there was a Pink Pumpkins painting event sponsored by the art department, pink ribbon shoelaces were sold by the Key Club and donations were accepted at all football games.
