Mineola learners design and build outdoor learning space for environmental exploration

Mineola High School learners completed a project that will provide an interactive outdoor learning experience for elementary school students at the district’s Jackson Avenue School.

The learners in the high school’s Fab Lab (fabrication laboratory) classes designed, built and installed wooden benches, planters and a compost bin that turned an underused outdoor space into an exciting opportunity education and discovery.

During their visit to Jackson Avenue School to install the new equipment, the high school learners took time to discuss the project with the younger students and answered questions about homework, sports and more.

Beginning this spring, Jackson Avenue learners will be involved in planting and composting projects in the new space, as well as creating inspiring art installations that will enhance the beauty of this amazing outdoor classroom.
