Mineola Union Free School District congratulates high school Computer Science teacher Kuri DiFede on being named a 2022 New York State Master Teacher.
Ms. DiFede’s classes at Mineola High School include AP Computer Science A, Python and Web Development. She also runs the asynchronous computer science program, giving students who can’t fit traditional computer science classes into their schedule access to the classes. In addition, Ms. DiFede is the Computer Science teacher leader, coach of the FRC and FTC Robotics teams and advisor for the Computer Science Honor Society. She has been a member of the Mineola High School faculty since 2016.
“Joining the Master Teacher program has allowed me to interact with educators from a variety of STEM disciplines from across the state, sharing experience and exchanging ideas that will immediately benefit our learners,” said Ms. DiFede. “This amazing program has also given me the unique opportunity to further my own professional development, gathering knowledge and inspiration that I can share with my fellow teachers.”
“Ms. DiFede is a wonderful educator and resource for both students and her colleagues,” said Mineola Superintendent of Schools Dr. Michael Nagler. “As a teacher leader in the Mineola School District she already provides leadership to our computer science department. Now, as a selected member of the NYS Master Teacher Program, she will have another way to continue to hone her craft while collaborating among top STEM educators in the state.”
This achievement is part of the New York State Master Teacher Program (NYSMTP), a professional coalition of K-12 public school teachers who share a common interest for STEM learning and for collaborating with their colleagues to inspire and engage the next generation of STEM leaders. Ms. DiFede is one of 221 educators to be selected to join this network of teaching professionals, known as Master Teachers.
