Sixth-grade chorus students at Herricks Middle School, under the direction of teacher Jennifer Triolo, explored poetry and songwriting during the month of February.

Inspired by Langston Hughes’ poem “The Dream Keeper” that was later arranged for choir by Rollo Dilworth, students practiced rhyming, symbolism, and figurative language through their own poetry writing. They then added vocal lines to match their written poems and some students added in instruments such as piano, drum or ukulele.
