Five teams of student chefs from the Herricks High School Family and Consumer Science (FACS) classes cooked up their original chili concoctions in hopes of being named champions in the school’s ultimate chili competition.
The chili recipes were prepped and cooked in the school’s state-of-the-art FACS room, which is also where the panel of six judges, made up of teachers and administrators, were gathered for the final tasting. Using an official judging rubric, each dish was rated according to taste, consistency, aroma, appearance and bite.
According to the judges, the competition was tight with each team serving up a unique and flavorful take on the classic dish. However, when the scores were tallied, it was Team Fresh Feast’s sweet potato chili that came out on top.
