March is nutrition month at Heights School—an opportunity for young students to learn about making healthy food choices and identifying different food groups.

To make the nutrition curriculum fun and hands-on, educators created a Heights Supermarket stocked with non-perishable food, donated in collaboration with the Parent Faculty Association (PFA).

Each class also designed a food poster to help organize the cans and boxes of food on display.

The trip to the supermarket began with the children watching a video of Principal Mary Wood exploring Ferreira Food Town and speaking with the managers of different departments.

Then, students headed to the classroom market to mock purchase a food item. When they reached the cash register they were asked to identify the food group of their purchase.

At the end of the month, all the food will be donated to local food pantries.
