In honor of Computer Science Education Week, which is observed annually in December, John Lewis Childs School students participated in the Hour of Code during their time in the Discovery Lab with teacher Janice Hyland.
Pre-K students used Sphero indi, an introductory STEM robot toy, while students in grades K-2 utilized the Tynker Jr. app and OSMO Coding Games. Students in grades 3-6 were given choice boards to choose what coding activities they wanted to participate in. The choice boards provided links to Scratch, Code.org and videos to learn more about computer coding.
Over the course of two weeks, each grade completed an Hour of Code in the Discovery Lab.
“By providing students with the opportunity to grasp the fundamentals, it ignites their interest and enthusiasm for the field of computer science,” Hyland said.
