Herricks High School Senior Carolyn Lau recently traveled to National Harbor, Maryland to perform with the All-National Symphony Orchestra. In early November, Lau joined top performing high school musicians selected from around the country for three days of intensive rehearsals, workshops, and keynotes, culminating in a final concert. Under the baton of Maestro Nobuyoshi Yasuda, the ensemble played Ravel’s La Valse, Chabrier’s España, and Toyama’s Rhapsody for Orchestra.
Lau was selected as one of four flutists nationwide through an audition process. The Herricks High School senior served as 1st flute and had a featured piccolo solo in the final piece. Lau shared, “It was a thrilling experience meeting passionate musicians from so many different places, from Alaska to Florida, and seeing how much we could grow musically and connect with each other over such a short time period.”
