
South High School Winter Concert I is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Ruel E. Tucker Auditorium, 341 Lakeville Rd. This exciting evening of music will feature the String Orchestra, Mixed Chorus, and Symphonic Band. The concert is free of charge and the public is welcome to attend.
The String Orchestra will perform classical selections including “Impresario Overture” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and symphonies by Ludwig van Beethoven and Felix Mendelssohn. The Orchestra will close their portion of the Winter Concert with a performance of “Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!”.
The Mixed Chorus will perform seasonal selections from around the world, including Two Chinese Folk Songs (“Fengyang Song” and “The Flowing Stream”); “Bonse Aba – Zambian Traditional”; “Ukrainian Bells”; “Bashana Haba’ah”; “Give Us Hope”; “The Sleigh a la Russe”; and “Winter Wonderland”.
The evening will conclude with a performance by the Symphonic Band, which will include “Colonel Bogey” (March) by Kenneth J. Alford; “Blue Ridge Saga” by James Swearingen; “American Flourish” by Robert W. Smith; “Skydance” by Robert Sheldon; and selections from the musical Dear Evan Hansen.
The String Orchestra and Symphonic Band are under the direction of Michael Schwartz, performing arts department head/instrumental music teacher.
