Floral Park Memorial’s Model UN team wins awards at Rutgers conference

The Model UN team from Floral Park Memorial High School in the Sewanhaka Central High School District competed at the Rutgers University Model UN Conference, held from Nov. 17-20.

The team debated and worked to compromise during the four days of the conference. Six of the 19 members of the team won awards.

Safaa Alami earned a Best Delegate Award for her work on the Commission on the Status of Women, Tulah Chatteron and Isabel Gonzalez earned a Distinguished Delegate Award for their work on the UN Environment Programme, John DiMeo earned a Position Paper Award for his work on 1990: Diamond Trade Council, Chloe LaVaute earned a Best Delegate Award for her work on the International Federation of the Red Cross, and Nico Mathew earned the Distinguished Delegate Award for the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

Additionally, the team won the Outstanding Medium School Award.
