Floral Park-Bellerose School students gathered in the school’s auditorium to listen to speeches from Student Council representatives who were vying for officer positions on Nov. 16.
In all, 11 students in grades 4-6 sought to become officers after being selected as Student Council members in their respective classroom elections. Each wrote a short speech, which detailed their positive character traits and ideas, to inspire their peers to vote for them. Student Council adviser Chris Washousky encouraged the student body to vote for the most qualified individual. Throughout the assembly, the roles of president, vice president, treasurer and sergeant of arms were explained before the candidates shared their speeches.
The following students delivered thought-provoking and impassioned speeches: Nora Bittaf, Oscar Dalton, Elizabeth Driscoll, Olivia Giani, Brendan Hughes, Siena McCree, Thomas O’Donohue, Aiden Patey, Angelina Sankovich, Jack Viggiano and Colin Wenzel.
