The East Williston School District recently held its annual Family Technology and Coding Night for kindergarten through eighth graders.

District teachers led interactive sessions including block and language-based coding on multiple coding platforms and The Wheatley School’s Cybercats led a driver experience where community members were able to test their driving skills. Students also applied coding skills to Edison Robots and TI-83 Rovers, used an AI Playground to delve into large language models and machine learning, and explored circuitry and conductivity by using fruit, tinfoil and graphite to play drums, soccer and an Etch-A-Sketch.

The event allowed students to explore and participate in experiences that promote technology, engineering and applied computer science.

New this year, the event also served as a fundraiser for new and unused toys to benefit Toys for Tots. Organized by The Wheatley School Wildcats, more than 150 gift donations were collected to support our local U.S. Marines who visited the event to accept the donations.
