Detective Rory Forrestal visited North Middle School on Sept. 14 to present three grade-level assemblies about Internet safety.
Forrestal spoke with students about social media, smartphones, and the dangers of cyberbullying. His message focused on protecting privacy, making smart decisions, and understanding the consequences of actions online.
Forrestal was a member of the Suffolk County Police Department for 32 years—including 25 years as a detective—and he worked extensively with the Cyber Crimes Unit.
In 2006, he received Congressional Recognition by Congressman Tim Bishop for developing a county-wide school Internet safety program, which has reached more than 160,000 children.
