Sewanhaka Central High School District spread holiday cheer by inviting chorus students from all five school buildings to perform at the board of education meeting on Dec. 19.

As administrators, families, staff and board members entered the H. Frank Carey High School auditorium, they were greeted by the sound of holiday tunes performed by members of Carey’s senior band.

Then, students from Elmont Memorial, Floral Park Memorial, Carey, New Hyde Park Memorial and Sewanhaka high schools sang “Joy to the World,” “Carol of the Bells,” “Deck the Halls” and “Jingle Bell Rock.” They were led by Elmont Memorial Music Chairperson Andrea Galeno, Floral Park Memorial Choir Director Samantha Koch, H. Frank Carey Choir Director Michael Moreno and Elmont Memorial Choir Director Benjamin Pesenti. The students met together an hour prior to the board meeting to rehearse for the first time.

The students received a standing ovation at the conclusion of their performance.
