At its Aug. 15 business meeting, the Carle Place School District’s Board of Education adopted a resolution to proceed with a community vote on Oct. 24 on the financing of various capital improvement work through a bond referendum and authorization to use capital reserve funds.

Proposition No. 1 of the project calls for replacing the existing heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems at Carle Place Middle/High School. It will include dedicated outdoor air systems that condition and clean the air in the classrooms.

New heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems will be added to the gymnasiums. Improvements also include replacing the building’s suspended ceilings and installing LED lighting.

The total cost of Proposition No. 1 is approximately $13 million. Ten million would be funded through a cost-neutral bond. The remaining $3 million would be funded through the district’s capital reserve fund.

The second proposition includes the construction of a five-classroom extension on
Cherry Lane Elementary School for the purpose of housing the district’s Universal Pre-
Kindergarten program.

The total cost of Proposition No. 2 is approximately $6 million, which would be funded through a bond. This would result in a net annual increase of approximately $60.00 for the average Carle Place homeowner.

The passage of Proposition No. 2 is contingent upon the community’s approval of Proposition No. 1.

“The proposed project to enhance the middle/high school HVAC system and expand
classrooms for our UPK program will provide a safer, more comfortable and more
conducive learning environment for students,” Ted Cannone, superintendent of the Carle Place School District, said. “We are excited to propose this project to the community and look forward to sharing additional information with the public in the coming weeks. Our goal is to keep residents informed and foster a sense of transparency.”

Voting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., in the high school multipurpose room.
