The Village of Roslyn’s Board of Trustees adopted a $5.5 million budget for 2022-23 on Tuesday evening, an increase of 3.45 percent, or $183,414, from the current budget.

Real estate taxes are to increase by $74,366, or 1.79 percent, a level below the state tax cap. Among other things, the budget will increase the appropriations for operations and maintenance of the sewer systems by $71,000 and street maintenance by $242,000, the two largest increases for the coming fiscal year. 

In addition to adopting the budget, the board approved a permit for Shibley Day Camp to install a fifth active pool on its site. 

At a previous hearing, the board recommended to Heath Levine, owner and director of the camp, that he gauge the concern, if any, of residents closest to the area on parts of Regent Place. Levine said that he got all but one resident to give verbal or written support for the renovation. The person who raised concern was not present at the public hearing.

Between the March and April meetings, trustees also walked on the property so see how construction was going to proceed, Mayor John Durkin said.

The pool is projected to be 1,500 square feet and can hold a maximum of over 100 users. The pool’s depth is not set but will not exceed five feet. There will be no diving board. Levine previously said that policy at the camp is to have one lifeguard per 25 pool users, but they will have more supervision during camp. 

“The children are always accompanied beside the lifeguards who are on duty or are accompanied by their counselors in the group,” Levine said in March. “So there is a lot of supervision as soon as they enter.”

The next village Board of Trustees meeting will be held Tuesday, May 17.
