Roslyn Heights fire claims two dogs’ lives

Two dogs died in a house fire in Roslyn Heights on Saturday afternoon.

Officials responded to the fire at 183 Jefferson Ave. at around 6 p.m. According to Nassau police, the blaze was put out with the help of the Roslyn Fire Company and about 19 other fire departments.

The Long Island Expressway’s Exit 37 was closed while firefighters extinguished the flames.

There were no injuries recorded during the evacuation of the residents, according to police.

Although firefighters quelled the inferno, the home was destroyed. The single-family house was built in 1999.

The Nassau County Fire Marshal was on the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
