The Village of Roslyn Harbor expressed support for Israel and condemned Hamas’ attacks with a resolution supporting Israel as they defended themselves Thursday night.
“We feel it’s important to recognize the unprovoked attack that started an unfortunate war,” Mayor Sandy Quentzel said.
The board of trustees adopted a resolution similar to the one passed by Congress the day prior.
The Oct. 25 resolution passed overwhelmingly by the House of Representatives reaffirmed Israel’s right to self-defense, condemned Hamas and urged the release of hostages.
The purpose is to stand “with Israel as it defends itself against the barbaric war launched by Hamas and other terrorists,” according to the resolution.
The resolution reaffirms the United State’s commitment to Israel’s security and that the country is “ready to assist Israel with emergency resupply and other security, diplomatic, and intelligence support.”
“We stand in solidarity against the war, for peace,” Quentzel said. “We all want peace.”
As well as passing the resolution, the village also approved the payment of the Glenwood Fire Department’s length of service award program, or LOSAP, for the years 2019-2022.
Quentzel said the village had not been able to pay the fire department because they had not received a bill. A schedule of bills was not sent to the village until September.
She said that the village had settled an issue with the Glenwood Fire Department prior to authorizing the payment as the department’s backup bill did not match the bill sent last month. The board opted not to vote on the payment at their September meeting because the two did not match up.
Now that the two match, Quentzel said, they were able to vote on it and will now send over the payment.
She said the village has been setting aside money for the payment over the years they were not paying, which will be sent to the fire department now that they have received the accurate bill.
The Roslyn Harbor Board of Trustees will convene again on Nov. 29 where a public hearing will be held to consider amending a local law to request no parking during snow emergencies. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at the village hall.
