The Bridge, a nonprofit that provides mental health and substance abuse resources, is hosting a golf outing fund-raiser at Engineers Country Club in Roslyn July 24.
The event, titled “Let’s Par-Tee: The Bridge Golf Outing” will feature former New York Knicks John Starks and New York Yankees Champion Jim Leyritz. The event aims to support The Bridge’s mission of providing essential services and support to vulnerable individuals in the community, including mental health and substance abuse treatment, housing, healthcare, and creative arts therapies.
Starks, 57, had a 14-year career in the NBA, eight of them with the Knicks from 1990 to 1998. Known for his shooting, Starks became the first player to hit 200 three-pointers in a single season in 1995.
While with the Knicks, Starks averaged 14.1 points per game.
Leyritz, 59, was an MLB catcher and infielder throughout his 11-year career that had stops in Anaheim, Texas, Boston, San Diego and Los Angeles along with New York.
The Ohio native is a two-time World Series champion as he was a member of the winning teams in 1995 and 1999, both over the Atlanta Braves.
During his nine years in New York over multiple stints, Leyritz hit 58 home runs and had a .263 batting average
The highlight of the event will be an auction, offering golf enthusiasts the opportunity to bid for a chance to play in a foursome with Starks and Leyritz. Other auction items include signed sports memorabilia and luxury vacations.
The day will kick off with registration and breakfast at 9:30 a.m., followed by an 18-hole best ball outing with a shotgun tee-off at 11 a.m. Participants will gather for dinner and cocktails at 4 p.m., when they will have the chance to enjoy presentations, acknowledge tournament winners, and bid on silent auction items from 6 pm to 8 pm.
