The campaign for longtime Democratic National Committee member Robert Zimmerman announced an endorsement from the Village of East Hills Mayor Michael Koblenz and Daniel Dromm, former New York City Council finance chair as he bids for his party’s nomination in the 3rd Congressional District. 

Koblenz, who has served in his role for more than two decades, said Zimmerman can deliver for both the village and district. 

“I know Robert Zimmerman well and I have seen him in action. He has demonstrated the experience and insight to effectively deliver for the residents of the Village of East Hills and Nassau County,” Koblenz said in a statement. “From his years on Capitol Hill, to his career in business, and his decades of advocacy as a Democratic National Committeeman, I know Robert will give us the leadership we need during this critical time for Long Island and our nation. That is why I proudly endorse him for Congress.”

Dromm, an LGBTQ+ leader according to the campaign, said Zimmerman will advocate for the community’s issues.

“Robert Zimmerman will make history as the first LGBTQ+ Member of Congress from Queens and Long Island,” Dromm said. “It matters because our community’s hard fought victories are being assaulted and threatened by state governments across the nation. We need one of our own fighting on the front lines for the LGBTQ+ community. I know that Robert will lead that fight in Congress and that is why I proudly endorse him.”

Zimmerman, 67, is co-president of ZE Creative Communications on Bond Street in Great Neck, a public relations firm he began 33 years ago with Ron Edelson.

He is seeking the congressional seat being vacated by Rep. Tom Suozzi (D-Glen Cove), who is running for governor.

Since his announcement this year, Zimmerman’s campaign has raised over $900,000.

If elected, Zimmerman would become the first gay member of Congress from Long Island and Queens.

Other endorsements for Zimmerman’s campaign include former Nassau County Executive Laura Curran, Assemblyman Charles Lavine and state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli.

Others running for the Democratic nomination in the district include former North Hempstead Supervisor Jon Kaiman, Nassau County Legislator Joshua Lafazan, state Sen. Alessandra Biaggi, Oyster Bay’s Reema Rasool and Melanie D’Arrigo of Port Washington.

George Santos is seeking the Republican nomination.
