Readers Write: Why I won’t vote for Suozzi

I am a Democrat.  With no exception I have always voted Democratic in the past.

But for the upcoming special election for NY Congressional District 3, due to the current circumstances in Israel I will not vote for the Democratic candidate Tom Suozzi.

In 2016 Mr. Suozzi got elected to Congress and was re-elected in 2018 and 2020.  He “retired” from Congress to run for the Democratic nomination (his second attempt) for governor of New York in 2022, but he didn’t win his party’s nomination in the primary.

When first elected to Congress, Suozzi’s very first speech was pushing for a Palestinian state in the West Bank of the Jordan River, otherwise known as Judea and Samaria.

After the massacre and abduction of thousands of Israelis by some of the neighbors from Gaza, a microcosm of the Judea and Samaria, I believe it is absolutely insane to send such a zealot to Congress.

In the aftermath of the massacre by the Gazans, Israel need not be pressured by Congress for creation of another explosive entity protruding inward on its borders longing for “the river to the sea.”

  1. So you’re voting for a public servant of the United States of America based on foreign policy??? I vote for USA to stay out of foreign affairs and to stop sending my hard earned tax dollars to armies overseas. I sure as hell won’t be voting for Mazi Pilip-his opponent- who does more the IDF and Israel than she does for Long Island.

  2. Are we pro-Israel or pro-America? Regardless of Tom Suozzi’s policy on Israel, he is much more preferable than Mazi Pilip, a woman of questionable loyalty to the United States. Do we really think a citizen of Israel and ex-IDF soldier will put the interests of Nassau residents, especially the non-Jewish majority, first?

    • James Wu,
Questioning the loyalty of Jews to the United States is a bigoted trope. Shame on you. I’m really glad you didn’t win the Great Neck Mayoral elections.

    • It is a shame that in this day and age in America, there are still people who are not able to tolerate the presence of a female, back and a Jew holding an office and “question” their royalties.

    • The article is talking about why the author is not voting for her own party affiliation. She didn’t even mention Ms. Pilip or whether she is or not voting for Ms. Pilip.

Mr. Wu, you brought Pilip despite there’s no mention of her in the article and you seem troubled that Pilip is a “women” and Jewish and you are”questioning” her loyalty and integrity?

By the way, you the same James Wu as in these articles or you are a different James Wu?
“James Wu does not come to the table with clean hands – The Island 360”

“Can Wu be trusted as mayor of VGN? – The Island 360”

If you are the same, it seems that you make George Santos proud.

  3. Tom Suozzi is and has always been an tremendous ally to the State of Israel. In fact, since the horrific October 7 attack, he recently traveled to Israel to meet with hostages loved ones and solidify his unwavering support. His first speech did NOT push for a “Palestinian” state. This is the usual spreading falsehoods, lies and fear. Suozzi’s position back then and since then, clearly states that he calls for condemning all anti-Israel terrorism —- that’s not a zealot in the real world. With everything that is going on in the world and especially in Israel, we need someone who not only has unwavering support of Israel to protect herself but also someone who has the experience to put that support into real world action. It’s easy to say you support Israel. It’s another thing to actually know how to do it and actually do it. That person is hands down Tom Suozzi.

    • Suozzi never went to Israel during any of his previous campaigns because none of his previous opponents were perceived as having a major support by the Jewish voters.

Yes. It’s true that Suozzi went to Israel. But it was clearly a photo op trip? But what did he accomplish besides the photo opt for his self promotion and propaganda?

After the October 7 massacre, did Suozzi wake up? Is he now saying that having a Palestinian state in the West Bank would put Israel at even bigger risks than the October 7th catastrophe?

Does Suozzi admit that Gaza is a “microcosm” of the West Bank?

  4. The same people who voted in George Santos have shared this article 163 times (and counting) because people are SO easily manipulated by their emotions over an issue they have no control over and whose opinions matter little.

The 3rd District is sick with pathologies.

    • Sir
Can you please explain exactly by what you exactly mean by:
“The 3rd District is sick with pathologies?”

Are they “sick with pathologies” because they have a different opinion than you on who to vote for or something different?

      Kindly explain

      • Well, let’s see:

they voted for an obvious liar and criminal who was exposed as an obvious liar and criminal before the election. Because they were afraid of “crime.”

They tolerate a dysfunctional and thoroughly corrupted government apparatus like it was elevator music.

Then there was the guy who didn’t want an apartment building replacing the Ford dealership because of the risk his “five year old son” might get run over. Because we all know there aren’t any cars going in an out of a car dealership.

According the US Census, the population of Great Neck has been essentially frozen for the past decade, because you don’t want housing built because of the noiiiissssse and the twaffic.” But you said nothing when the hospital monopolies threw up over a million square feet of office and treatment facilities while there’s no place for the actual employees to live, so they commute in.

How’s that for pathological? Any of this work for ya? There’s a lot more if you like.

        • From your comments is clear that you are not familiar with Great Neck.

Are you sure that people who are against the construction of apartment building developments are against your buddy, Tom Suozzi?

          • “From your comments is clear that you are not familiar with Great Neck.”

Right, sweetheart. I graduated (after a fashion) from Great Neck South in 1970, lived on South Middle Neck Road for about a decade, and I’ve lived in the TONH since 1962, up until recently.

I’ve watched Great Neck turn into a half vacated slum, because people here just hate change and local hairdressers believe they can set public policy.

            As you were.

  5. I unequivocally prefer a candidate with a solid record of experience and accomplishments vs one that has little to show after 2 years in the county legislature. In a climate of partisan politics, Tom Suozzi has demonstrated his ability to work across the aisle based on his record in Congress and as the former vice chair of the Problem Solvers Committee. This is not a time for “learning on the job”. We need an experienced legislator to represent NY-3. By the way, I’d welcome a link to speech to which you refer to Suozzi pushing for a Palestinian state in the West Bank as I can’t find one.

    • A two state solution has been the official policy of the United States for decades, so why anyone would get upset about this unhinged rant from the author is hard to understand.
It was always the obvious solution, but both sides need each other to prolong the conflict to maintain their power.

Kind of like some people in this country.

      • Don,
You need to open your eyeseven further, despite your previous involvements and knowledge of Israel.
I perceive you as a conscientious guy.

After the war in Gaza, it’s clear that not only the Gazans, but, the other “Palestinians” want to have “from the river to the sea”

Go to the city. You’ll find out

It is clear 2 state solution would put Israelis at a far more explosive exposure than what israel experienced recently

Once there’s a new entity in the West Bank Iranians would have a new site far more dangerous than Gaza, south Lebanon and Syria. It would be a time bomb in the belly of Israel

You are in finance but not a military expert. No knowledge of modern warfare and believe in old idea idea of two state solution.

If you have a friend with the knowledge of warfare you should speak to

        • Excuse me, “Frank.”
My family entered the Yishuv in 1917, about the time General Allenby walked into Jerusalem.
Every one of them has served, from the Palmach to this very day in the IDF. I’ve been to Israel quite a few times, and hosted my Israeli cousins in my own home.

I’m kind of well versed in the history, here, but thanks SO MUCH for the generosity (sic) of bestowing your knowledge of strategic and political matters in the region.

          Have a nice day.

          • Dear Don

Unfortunately, your “well versed” knowledge are outdated since the mid-90’s

For instance, are you aware that the Islamic Republic of Iran is suppling cruise missiles to Hizbollah and supplying ballistic missiles to Russia?

Do you know that Iranians had master plans to have a simultaneous attack by Hizbollah from South Lebanon, West Bank and Gaza on Israel but because of the Music Festival meant to support the Gazans, the Gazans started earlier than planned?

            Stay well

    • When started as a politician, Tom Suozzi did no have any experience, and he still doesn’t.

He harmed Nassau by tax hikes, gas tax etc He made Nassau the highest taxed county in America

  6. “For instance, are you aware that the Islamic Republic of Iran is suppling cruise missiles to Hizbollah and supplying ballistic missiles to Russia?”

    You don’t say…..

    God help us.
