Readers Write: We need Suozzi and he deserves our vote

When Tom Suozzi ran in the special election 10 months ago, I supported him with an expectation that he would accomplish the following three goals:

1. Be an unwavering supporter of Israel.
2. Stand firm and be a leader in the Democratic Party with respect to Israel.
3. Work across party lines to get things done in Congress.

Congressman Suozzi exceeded my highest expectations.  Without a doubt, he deserves our vote. Even more, we need him as our Representative for NY-03.  He is experienced, effective and an essential voice in Congress.

For my friends who are fed-up with the over politization of Congress and want and effective Congress, there is no one better than Suozzi.  He is a member of the bi-partisan Problem Solvers Caucus, with a proven track record of working across party lines getting things done.  

For my pro-Israel friends, you understand how necessary it is to strengthen the pro-Israel voices in the House Democratic caucus. With Suozzi we have a proven, respected, and effective pro-Israel voice into the House Democratic caucus. Suozzi is a leader who consistently influenced other Members of Congress to do what’s right for Israel, including never being afraid to fight members of his own party. Here are five recent examples of Suozzi’s great leadership:

1. Played a critical role in passing the Israel Security Supplemental Appropriations Act by pledging to save Speaker Johnson if he brings it to the floor. This funding supports Israel’s defense against Iran and its proxies by replenishing the Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and the Iron Beam defense systems.
2. One of only 42 Democrats to vote for the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, which passed the House and makes clear that the U.S. will not tolerate the International Criminal Court’s deliberate and unjust targeting of Israel. 
3. One of only 16 Democrats to vote for the Israel Security Assistance Support Act, which has passed the House and would compel the delivery of defense weapons to Israel as they fight to protect themselves against radical terrorists.
4. Helped pass the Antisemitism Awareness Act and is working to pass the Countering Antisemitism Act, which AJC calls the most comprehensive antisemitism legislation ever in America.
5. Helped pass over nine (and counting) bills in the House aimed at countering Iranian terrorism.
